Pharyngoconjunctival Fever ( Beware of Pool Fever )
Pharyngoconjunctival fever is caused by adenovirus and is mainly common in children.
In the Surveillance of Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases, the number of patients reported per fixed point for pharyngoconjunctival fever in the 44th week of 2023 ( from October 30 to November 5 ) was 2.52 in Chiba Prefecture, up from 2.22 in the previous week.
Nationwide, this is the highest number of cases reported per fixed point in the past 10 years. It is important to prevent infection by washing hands ・ and gargling.
[Symptoms]
fever, pharyngitis ( sore throat ・ swelling etc. ), conjunctivitis ( red eyes ・ itchy eyes ・ eye discharge etc. )
[Prevention
・ Wash hands with running water and soap, as rubbing alcohol is not effective.
・ After using a pool or spa, take a shower and gargle.
・ Avoid close contact with infected people, for example, refrain from sharing towels.
